My Muslim President Obama
The News - Americas

Asma Gull Hasan, a Muslim American writer, performs al-Dawah, and reveals that most Muslims “just know” that President Hussein is a Muslim, no matter what he says in public; that they understand that Obama attended an anti-Christian “church” [Trinity United actually rejects the Trinity, draws no distinction between Islam and what they call "christianity", and is led by a Muslim]; that that Muslims will always stick together and discriminate on behalf of each other; that this desire to always put a fellow Muslim first is even stronger than the strong desire and obligation to go to war against non-Muslims. You will know the Truth and the Truth shall set you free.

Meaning of Nike
Newsflashes - Newsflash
  nikelogo.png
In Greek mythology, Nike (meaning Victory), was a goddess who personified triumph throughout the ages of the ancient Greek culture. The Roman equivalent was Victoria. Depending upon the time of various myths, she was described as the daughter of Pallas (Titan) and Styx (Water), and the sister of Kratos (Strength), Bia (Force), and of Zelus (Rivalry). Nike and her siblings all became described as attendants of Zeus when his cult gained the position of the dominant deity of the Greek pantheon and the roles of older deities were changed in new myths. According to classical (later) myth, Styx brought them to Zeus when the god was assembling allies for the Titan War against the older deities. Nike assumed the role of the divine charioteer, a role in which she often is portrayed in Classical Greek art. Nike is seen with wings in most statues and paintings. Most other winged deities in the Greek pantheon had shed their wings by Classical times. Nike is the goddess of strength, speed, and victory. Nike was a very close acquaintance with Athena goddess of wisdom. Nike is one of the most commonly portrayed figures on Greek coins.

That means that the company knew full well what it means before deciding on the name. In my opinion it wouldn't be correct for Muslim to wear such apparel. It would be the same as having a sweater with "Jesus for Lord" or 'Jah Bless" on it.

Obama aide in 'anti-Arab' row
The News - Americas

Rahm Emanuel, US president-elect Barack Obama's chief of staff, has apologised to an Arab-American group for comments made by his father that disparaged Arabs. Benjamin Emanuel was reported as telling an Israeli newspaper about his son last week: "Obviously, he will influence the president to be pro-Israel. Why wouldn't he?

"What is he, an Arab? He's not going to clean the floors of the White House."

The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee had sent a letter to Emanuel calling on him to distance himself from his father's remarks.

Rahm Emanuel, also an Illinois congressman, called the group's president, Mary Rose Oakar, on Thursday to apologise on behalf of his family.

"These are not the values upon which I was raised or those of my family," the group quoted him as saying.

Pro-Israel 'fears'

The committee, in a statement on its website, said Emanuel told Oakar it was unacceptable to make such remarks against any ethnic or religious group.

Oakar welcomed the apology, saying: "We cannot allow Arabs and Muslims to be portrayed in these unacceptable terms."

Some analysts in the Middle East have raised concerns about the appointment of Emanuel, who has a record of strongly supporting Israel, suggesting he could use his position to influence Obama's policies in the region.

Emanuel dismissed the suggestions earlier this week, saying Obama did not need his influence to "orientate his policy toward Israel".

Benjamin Emanuel is a Jerusalem-born doctor who was active in the Irgun - an underground Zionist organisation that fought the British in Palestine prior to the founding of Israel in 1947.

Education - Salaah
The sin of missing a Salaah intentionaly is extremly great. According to Hadeeth such a person even though he pays the Salaah back later will remain in Jahannam for a period of 1 Huqb which is equal to 70 years of this world. Imagine the punishment for one who completly neglects it. Salaah will also be the first things to be reconded for on the day of Qiyaamat.

Missing Salaah but performing it later is very bad but not as bad as missing it completly. Insha Allah by paying our missed Salaah back and taubah Allah through his mercy will forgive us.

Download this spreadsheet that will assist in calculating how many Salaah's need to be paid back that we have missed over the passed years.

Islam, Islaam, or Islam? - The Different Styles of Arabic Romanization
Education - Arabic
Is it Allah, Allaah, or Allāh? Was he Muhammad, Muhammed, or Muḥammad, (SAW)? Do we follow the religion of Islam, Islaam, or Islām? Where ever you go throughout the English speaking world, you will find variations of Arabic words romanized differently. As a result, different styles and even opinions have formed. Just for fun, let’s take a look at some of them.

Example

The Common Style

This is what you tend to see in basic intro to Islam books. Islam is spelled as, well, Islam! And Muhammad is Muhammad. Ramadan uses a d for ﺽ. From what I can gather, most of the common Islamic terms have been standardized into a set of commonly spelled terms that basic English romanization, such as Fiqh, Deen, Hajj, Shairah, etc.

The Extended Style

In this style, special attention is paid to letter conflicts. For example, azan is spelled as athan, to make clear that the word has a ذ and not a ز. Many of the letters will have additions or swaps as a shortcut to distinguish the letters. The letter ﺽ is represented by dh and not d, forming Ramadhan. Saqib becomes Thaqib, and so on.

I think this is nice to use, as it gives respect to certain letters in the Arabic language. So if you want to change your Desi given name of Rizwan Kazi to Ridhwan Qadhi, then by all means go ahead! ;)

The Sound It Out Style

You’re all very familiar with this one. This is the one that will type Islaam, or Allaah, or even Aboo Haneefah. This style of romanization tends to come from some groups of Salafis, er, Salafees, and has been typified with that movement quite widely. No where else will you see the use of the word Soofee in such a distinct form.

With some exceptions, I think this style is not needed, really. There’s no need to sound everything out so much, especially since English is a language that doesn’t have a set way of elongating and shortening vowels. One of my maternal uncles always uses the classic example, “vhat is t-o? To. But vhat is g-o? Goo? No, it is go! Vhy is it not goo?!”

Plus adding so many extra vowels makes things look a little unkempt.  With few exceptions, end of the day, you don’t always need this style, beekuz noe wun reelee tiepz lyke this eneewayz! Soundeeng out awl uv yoar werdz in letter formatt ken reelee get weerd. Keep dhis in myned dhuh next tyme yoo kaapee payst ay refyootayshun frum dhuh skawlerz!

The Greatest Women who ever lived
Education - Sahaba
By Fatima Barakatullah

Sparkling gems in their own times, they continue to glisten beyond their age, making their appeal everlasting. Each one a legend in her own right...

What are the most famous women of today celebrated for? Those held up as role models for the modern woman include actresses, singers, footballers WAGs (wives and girlfriends) and glamour models - all celebrated for their physical appeal. Very rarely will a woman be deemed ‘successful’ for other than what is really just superficial and then, as is often the case, when she ages and her physical features fade, she will fall out of favour with the media and younger women will replace her as the icons of their era. But Allah shows us in His Book that a woman is so much more than the outer shell that is her body. Our history is replete with examples of great women who were gems of their times and whose sparkling appeal is timeless. Islam demonstrates for us that the truly successful are those of integrity who fulfil the purpose of their creation and rise to the challenges that are presented to them throughout life with tenacity, thereby gaining the pleasure of their Creator and everlasting victory in the next life.

The Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said in an authentic Hadeeth, 'The best women from the people of Jannah are Khadijah bint Khuwaylid, Fatima daughter of Muhammad, Aasiya bint Muzaahim - the Wife of Pharoah and Mary daughter of Imran, may Allah be pleased with them all.'(Musnad Ahmad).
In fact Allah specifically mentions two of these great women in the Qur’an, as role models for believing men as well as women. In Surah at-Tahreem Allah says,

And Allah has set forth an example for those who believe: The wife of Pharaoh, when she said: "My Lord! Build for me a home with you in Paradise, and save me from the Pharaoh and his actions, and save me from the people who are oppressors.

And Maryam, the daughter of Imran who guarded her chastity. And we breathed into the sleeve of her garment through our Ruh, and she testified to the truth of the words of her Lord and believed in His books and was of those who are obedient to Allah.

So what were the characteristics that made them worthy of such accolade?  What made Allah and His Messenger single out these women above all others? And more importantly, how can we benefit and learn from their example?

Boycott Shoprite Checkers
The News - Africa
This week in Lenasia a Muslim female in hijaab(outer covering of Muslim (Females) withdrew cash from an ATM. Unknown to her a counterfeit note was present in this withdrawal. The then went to the Lenasia Checkers store situated in Lenasia Ext.1 Signet Terrace and purchased whatever she needed to and presented this note to pay for it. She was then arrested by Checkers staff and handed over to the SAPS. That made it worse is allegations that she was held in the Checkers store, handcuffed to a chair and mocked/jeered at by the employees for wearing the Hijaab for over an hour. Even if she used a note, was there a need to arrest a female who is in full cloak in public and humiliate her further by mocking/jeering at her? For a store of this nature who has millions of Rands of turnover daily, could they have not dealt with this in a less harsh manner? it is obvious that they were out to target her(with the mocking) and most probably found it a joke. We should all stand together as a Muslim Community, and defend her rights as she is one of our own sisters who did not know of her mistake when they took her away from the pay point.

This company  is a perfect example of racism Islamaphobia in South Africa! Furthermore the arrogance with which Shoprite Checkers has handled this issue is astonishing. They feel that they had every right to arrest this lady (maybe they feel counterfeiters usually are ladies that are fully covered and dressed as Muslims). Shoprite Checkers issued a very weak apology stating they will investigate further, however, in an interview with their Customer Service they clearly state "WE SYMPATHIZE WITH OUR STAFF!!" They feel what they did was right and will not apologize for this clear attack on our community.

Know Islam visited them on Friday morning and spoke to the manager who refused to comment. He was made aware of a boycott against this store and all other stores!
